• Mayor John Peyton has appointed E. Zimmerman Boulos and Delois C. Hollinger to the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission. President and owner of Office Environment & Services since 1977, Boulos also has served on boards including The Cultural Council of Jacksonville, San Marco Preservation Society, Greenscape of Jacksonville and the Airport Arts Commission.Hollinger has been the senior vice president of premier banking for Bank of America since June 2000. Their appointments are subject to City Council approval.

• The Bailey Publishing team won Tuesday’s 5th annual Gator Bowl Media Outing golf tournament at the World Golf Village’s Slammer & Squire course Tuesday. For more, see page 4.

• Our growing Latin population has spurred the local real estate association to start conducting classes in Spanish for its members.

• The Players Championship will announce its charity donations at a Nov. 29 luncheon at the Hyatt. Last year’s winner, Fred Funk, will be the speaker.

• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Business Center is encouraging female business owners to get involved with the Chamber’s Business Advisory Councils. The BACs bring together business owners for mentoring and business brainstorming sessions. The chamber offers three BACs divided by the businesses’ gross annual revenues. The Emerging BAC caters to businesses with less than $100,000; the Growth BAC to businesses between $100,000 and $1 million; and the Accomplished BAC to businesses with more than $1 million.

• Attorneys Gene and David Peek have a lot of memories of Florida-Georgia games from their days as Florida players in the late ’60s and early ’70s but neither one remembers Georgia as their toughest game. David said Mississippi State was the toughest game on the schedule then, and not just because of the team on the field. “You get all those fans ringing cowbells, and it gets pretty hard to concentrate,” he said.

• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce has announced its candidates for the 2005 Small Business Leader of the Year. Nominees include Barbara Sparks of Prudential Network Realty, Hank Woodburn of Adventure Landing, Jim Love of State Farm Insurance, Tiffany Kelchin of Blue Dolphin Consulting, Larry Levy of LevyNet LLC, Ray Moore of State Farm Insurance, Glenda Allen of GA Janitorial Cleaning Service, M.B. Pixie Larizza of HMT Inc., Aaron Mervin of Head Shots Portrait Studio, Thomas Blakely of Cellars Group and Suzanne McLeod of The Connexion Specialist. The winner will be announced Dec. 13 at the Chamber’s annual meeting. The winner serves a one-year term on the Chamber’s Board of Governors and receives a complimentary seat on the Chamber’s leadership trip and $500 in cash.
