Mayor John Peyton, City Council member Pat Lockett-Felder and a host of representatives from various non-profit housing initiatives gathered in the Brentwood community Thursday to break ground on what many are calling a “miracle.”
Thanks to the efforts of those groups, a $50 million affordable housing development that will feature 228 multi-family apartments, 100 senior units and 95 privately-owned homes and community centers will be ready for occupancy in the coming years.
Additionally, a National Football League-donated Youth Education Town Center (inset) is being built on a lot adjacent to those developments. Given by the NFL during the Super Bowl earlier this year, the 16,000 square foot YET Center will be owned and operated by the Boys and Girls Club.
“This, to me, shows the power of faith and prayer,” Lockett-Felder said prior to the ceremony. “We as a community have been given such a wonderful opportunity and I am grateful.”
