With one stadium to fill twice within a month, the Gator Bowl Association is off to its best start ever in ticket sales.

The association’s committee members — there are about 210 — met Tuesday night at Alltel Stadium to hear that over $210,000 in sales have been turned in, and to be challenged to reach 75 percent of the sales goal within a month.

“We have the best committee ever and we’ve done a wonderful job,” said Scott Keith of BB&T, who as chairman-elect heads the sales effort. “Last year we had 12 sales teams. This year we have 16.”

Teams are selling tickets to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game on Dec. 3 and the Gator Bowl game on Jan. 2.

Each committee member is obligated to bring in a specified amount: $3,000 for veterans, lesser amounts for newcomers. All are assigned to teams which have names corresponding to college names.

The leader to date is the “Florida State” team led by Allen Skipper of Peak 10, which is at 93 percent of its sales goal. Skipper has personally sold over $8,000 worth of tickets and teammate Mark Williamson of Eagle Eye Sales and Marketing is over $7,000.

Next is the “Clemson” team led by James Craig of Rogers Towers at 81 percent, followed by “Pittsburgh,” captained by Greg Stuart of Boston Scientific, at 79 percent.

Skipper is the leading individual.

The next meeting is Oct. 5 at the Hilton.
