• Duval Delegation Chair Dick Kravitz has set Nov. 17 as the date of the Duval County Legislative Delegation organizational meeting. The meeting’s at 2 p.m. in City Council Chambers. It’s open to the public and during the meeting Kravitz will hand over the reigns to State Rep. Tony Hill, who will serve as the next chair.
• Speaking of the Duval Delegation, the deadline to file local bills (J-Bills) is noon on Oct. 21. The Delegation will hold a public hearing on the local bills Jan. 20 in Council Chambers.
• JEDC commissioner Charlie Appleby’s reputation as the board skeptic is spreading fast, even to the commission’s leadership. After the presentation of one potential deal at the JEDC’s Thursday meeting, Chairman Ceree Harden went directly to Appleby, saying “Mr. Appleby, any questions?” A startled Appleby responded, “I didn’t raise my hand yet.” That prompted Harden to retort “I know you too well.” As it turned out, Appleby did have some questions.
• An elevator fire that emptied the Bank of America building late morning Wednesday may have been inconvenient for workers but it was good for the Landing. Plenty or people decided to take an early lunch since they had no idea how long they would be out of the building.
• According to Police and Fire Pension Fund boss John Keane, internal demolition at the Laura Street Trio will start soon. Plans are to block off the sidewalks on the east side of Laura Street from Forsyth to Adams and a portion of the north side of Forsyth Street.
• Bill O’Reilly is back on Jacksonville airwaves. The Fox News talk show host has a 12-month contract for his show to air on AM-1530 daily from noon-2 p.m.
• Bill Sulzbacher, chairman of the Jacksonville Housing Authority, has recommended Elizabeth Means as his replacement when his term as chairman ends at the end of the month. Means currently serves on the executive committee of the Housing Authority’s board.
