Florida Coastal School of Law

• The Center for Law and Public Policy will present an Issues 2005 Forum on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 11:45 to 1:00 p.m. in International Hall, Room 267, featuring Circuit Judge James E.C.Perry, Chief Judge of Florida’s 18th Judicial Circuit. University of Florida

• At the Sept. 9 UF Law Library dedication, U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Sandra Day O’Connor defended the independence of the judiciary and criticized politicians for recent remarks about the courts.

“I am against judicial reform driven by nakedly partisan, result-oriented reasons,” said O’Connor.

• This is the final week for first year Florida law students to apply for the Foley & Lardner Minority Scholarship. The $5,000 awarded to the winner can be applied to books, tuition and other fees.

• Hispanic Business Magazine recently recognized the Levin School of Law as the No. 6 law school in the country for Latino attendance.

Stetson University College of Law

• Stetson University College of Law recently held a ceremony to mark the opening of the country’s first “elder-friendly” courtroom. The facility features electronic gates, hearing aides and touch screens.
