• Looks like a scaffolding jungle in the Bank of America building these days. Seems a few of the marble tiles that cover the A/C ducts were coming loose around the Forsyth Street entrance. Building management decided to check all of them on the first floor and businesses have been told the scaffolding will be in place at least two months.

• Good news for Jacksonville U. athletics in the classroom. Sixteen athletes made the President’s Honor Roll (a perfect 4.0 GPA) this past year while another 48 made the Dean’s List — 3.5 GPA or better.

• Winn-Dixie CEO Peter Lynch bought a lot of tickets from the Jaguars but he won’t be using them — “I’m traveling so much I can’t get to the games,” he says. W-D bought tickets to distribute to area school systems. Lynch says he’ll try to make one game: Christmas Eve against the New England Patriots. “I grew up in the Boston area and I’m a big Pats fan,” he said. “I’ve lived all over the country but I still root for the Pats.”

• There hasn’t been much activity at the Downtown branch of Chamblin Bookmine on Laura Street. Now there is a sign posted on the door that indicates a “November or thereabouts” opening for Chamblin’s Uptown. it continues, “That is if the building renovation permit applications are all approved and if we don’t run out of money.”

• Want to win a free motorcycle? Then how quickly can you devour three “Joey Bag of Donuts” burritos from Moe’s? The eatery is holding its “Burritos for Life” burrito eating contest Saturday at 2 p.m. and the Mandarin location. The fastest to eat three burritos in the country will ride off in a Roger Bourget Python Motorcycle.

• Students, parents and other renters are urged to review their rights and responsibilities as tenants, according to a statement released by Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles Bronson. “Many college students and their parents are focusing on getting settled and may not pay enough attention to the details of the lease,” said Bronson. “But that may end up costing them and creating headaches down the road. It is much better to know exactly what you are getting into before signing a lease.”

• The City’s Office of Special Events is seeking judges for this year’s “Show Your True Colors” campground decorating contest. City Council President Michael Corrigan has been asked to help judge the Oct. 27 event that’s part of the Georgia-Florida festivities.
