The 2007 Jacksonville Jazz Festival will include an Art at the Met segment for the 5th year and organizers are seeking local artists to participate in the show.
Mayor John Peyton and the City of Jacksonville are calling all artists to submit their work for consideration in the annual Art at the Met, an art show and sale which is part of the Jacksonville Jazz Festival at Metropolitan Park. The three-day festival is April 13-15. Art at the Met will highlight the work of prize-winning artists and master craftspeople from throughout the region.
“Art at the Met is a unique component of the Jacksonville Jazz Festival which provides artists a way to express themselves through tangible works of art and allows festival-goers another attraction to enjoy at Metropolitan Park,” said Peyton.
Media categories include clay, drawing, glass, sculpture, fiber (includes fine wearables, rugs, and basketry), photography, painting (acrylic, oils and pastels), jewelry, mixed media, metal and wood. A panel of qualified specialists from the regional art community will select artists for participation in Art at the Met. Postmark deadline is March 2 and artists will be notified the week of March 19. Judging will take place on April 13 and cash prizes totaling $3,000 will be awarded.
Art at the Met show hours are Friday, April 13, 5–10 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 10 a.m.–10 p.m. and Sunday, April 15, noon–7 p.m. The hours for the art show will coincide with hours of the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, providing patrons a way to enjoy the sounds of first-rate jazz performers and browse the works of talented artists. Art at the Met will be an added feature of the festival for no additional charge.
