• Big fund raiser Friday night at the home of Jack Demetree to raise money for Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum. Former Major League Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn and Jacksonville investor Robert Shircliff are hosting the cocktail party. Expensive, too. It’s a minimum, of $500 per person and checks are payable to Santorum 2006.

• Ten local attorneys have been selected for interviews for the judicial vacancy in the Fourth Circuit. The following judges will be interviewed starting at 9 a.m. Monday in Chief Judge Donald Moran’s chambers: Mark Borello, Kevin Blazs, Frederic Buttner III, Susan Cohen, Mose Floyd, Hope Iseley, Gary Joseph, Shelia Loizos, Virginia Norton and Tatiana Salvador. The interviews will last for 30 minutes and anyone wishing to comment on the qualifications of any of the applicants may do so by writing Fourth Circuit Judicial Nominating Chair, Mary Bland Love, at 815 S. Main St., Suite 300, Jacksonville, Fla. 32207.

• Back in December the University of Florida’s Department of Pediatrics was awarded the contract to operate the Children’s Medical Services Child Protection Team in Duval, Nassau, Clay, Baker and St. Johns counties and on March 2 they’ll dedicate the new Beach Boulevard facility. It’s from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and they’ll cut the ribbon at 11.

• Mayor John Peyton will meet with the Duval Delegation next Monday at 3 p.m. in the mayor’s large conference room. They’ll gather to discuss the legislative issues facing Jacksonville during the upcoming session.
