Jacksonville Bar adds book drive to Law Week

The Jacksonville Bar Association will collect books and art supplies for area schools as part of this year’s Law Week activities. The books and supplies will be distributed to the three elementary schools participating in this year’s poster contest, in which students design legally-themed posters. The JBA is asking members and employees from area firms to contribute a new book or art supply appropriate for use in an elementary school. Giselle Carson of Marks Gray, who is heading the initiative for the JBA, said the idea was suggested last year by the principal of the Annie Morgan School, a poster contest participant this year and last. “She said she was worried the kids wouldn’t read over the summer,” said Carson. “We saw an opportunity to contribute to an area where there was obviously a need.” Donations can be dropped off during the April 3 Law Day luncheon or at the JBA’s office (suite 730 in the Riverplace Tower) in the week leading up to the luncheon.
