• Having the Atlantic Coast Conference football championship game here has brought a convention of sorts. The college athletic conference is having its annual football kickoff at the Sawgrass Marriott later this month and over 100 media will attend. They‘ll be here for three days and yes, a golf outing is included.
• It may be a bit disconcerting to see a big “Student Driver” sign on the back of a JTA bus rolling around Downtown but the new drivers have to learn somehow. They do it only when there’s low traffic, like Monday of this week.
• Another golf club will renovate its course. This time it’s Selva Marina, the private Atlantic Beach country club.
• Want to rock out to “Suffragette City” with laser lights? You’re in luck. The Museum of Science and History’s planetarium will feature Cosmic Concerts for your viewing and listening pleasure throughout July. The Beach Boys show costs $3, starts at 4 p.m. and runs every day through July 22. And every Friday and Saturday through July 22, you can catch a classic rock blend at 8 p.m., the Beatles at 9 p.m. and David Bowie at 10:30 p.m. for $6 a show. In late July, the schedule changes again. There will be Pink Floyd shows – lots and lots of Pink Floyd shows.
• Just in case the copious Pink Floyd listings didn’t tip you off, children age six and under aren’t allowed to the late (after 9 p.m.) shows.
• The opening of Club Paris at the Landing did cause some damage to Body Shop, but the Foot Locker space is empty because the store’s lease ran out and they opted not to renew. “They have been there a long time and the space is just not big enough,” said Landing General Manager Janice Lowe, adding the Body Shop should reopen quickly.
• The popular CaddyShack restaurant at the World Golf Village is adding another spot here. They’ll open later his month in the Publix shopping center at Ponte Vedra Beach.
