• Season tickets for Jacksonville U.’s basketball games aren’t on sale yet. Sometime in July, they say, and you’ll have to buy all 13, even though two will be in the on-campus gym due to the circus visit to the Arena.
• The City may be moving into the Ed Ball Building but Quizno’s isn’t moving out. Legislation is pending that would extend the sub shop’s lease through April 30, 2011. In addition to rent, Quizno’s would also have to pay market rate for two parking spaces in the Hogan Street parking garage.
• Ever crave a veggie dog? So far, Downtown hot dog vendors haven’t exactly catered to vegetarians but the owner of the stand in front of the Bank of America tower says he’ll considering offering the fake meat if there’s enough demand.
• Speaking of hot dogs, you can usually buy one for breakfast. The BOA stand opens up around 9:30 a.m. most days to accommodate cab drivers and other early-risers who crave lunch before noon.
• July’s Jacksonville Waterways Commission meeting has been canceled. The next meeting is Aug. 3 at 9 a.m.
• Changes coming at the local Army Corps of Engineers office. July 25 Col. Paul Grosskruger will take over for Col. Robert Carpenter during a ceremony at the Times-Union Center.
• Wachovia CEO Bob Helms is hosting a luncheon Thursday for Council President-elect Michael Corrigan and Council Vice President-elect Daniel Davis at the Main Library at noon.
• Big convention coming and, even though you didn’t know that there was an International Organization of Women’s Barbershop singers, they’ll be here Nov. 8-12. A thousand or so of them.
• St. Joe CEO Peter Rummell got a favorable story in the current issue of the Urban land magazine, the publication of the Urban Land Institute.
• Must be an election coming up. Our state’s agriculture commissioner sent out a press release announcing his good work in the arrest of a Carrabelle man who was growing marijuana in his back yard. Carrabelle? It’s in Franklin County. Franklin County? It and its 11,000 residents are in the Panhandle.
• The Port will host up to 100 travel writers at a trade show on July 28. It’s at the Cruise Terminal and over 40 local companies have signed up to show off their products.
• The local Worksource office is shutting down and nearly 90 folks will be looking for employment. The company is owned by Arbor Education & Training out of Media, Pa. and City officials were notified by Director of Human Resources Kris McGill that the closure is effective Friday. McGill said the office is closing “as a result of a contract cancellation by its funding source.”
