This month’s Art Walk was a little different. In honor of Women’s History Month, the event was themed “A Celebration of Women” and included proactive stops that pampered and informed. Art Walk took place inside the SunTrust Tower on Wednesday and the Fogle Fine Art show featured a community art project, music, massages, beauty consultations, information about Women’s Center activities and a variety of female artists.
“It’s a good synergy,” said Leigh Fogle, owner of the Fogle gallery, of the variety of entertainment at the event. The Cultural Center of Ponte Vedra Beach arranged for Chiche Davis, a sculptor and instructor, to help guests contribute to a wood sculpture project.
Leigh Rodante, program director for The Cultural Center, said the project allows people to get in touch with their creativity.
“People who don’t create art on a regular basis are very hesitant to get started,” said Rodante. “But once they get started, they have a great time.”
Sandy Hansford, volunteer for the Women’s Center, said she appreciated the opportunity to participate in a celebration of women’s art.
“(Women’s History Month gives us) the opportunity to focus on the wonderful things that women have done,” said Hansford.
The Women’s Center provides therapeutic art projects for women. One recent project was for women living with AIDS; another was for women recovering from rape, breast cancer or other traumas.
“Art therapy really works,” said Hansford. “The art is an expression of their survival.”
