Caroline Emery, a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Harvey Schlesinger, is the Jacksonville Bar Association’s president-elect.
Emery defeated attorney Joseph Camerlengo in what outgoing JBA President Alan Pickert called “as close as an election can get.”
Over 500 JBA members voted either at the courthouse, on the Internet or at the annual meeting Thursday evening at Deerwood and Pickert said, “I now know what they mean when they say that one or two votes can decide an election.”
The announcement of Emery’s victory ended a day of golf, tennis and fellowship at Deerwood Country Club. The sporting activities took place during the day and the dinner meeting followed.
Elected to the Bar board for two-year terms were Giselle Carson, Michael Freed, Courtney Grimm, John Mills and Troy Smith. Ray Driver won a one-year term.
Emery will be president in 2007-08 and will work this year behind the 2006-07 president, Kelly Mathis. They’ll take office at the JBA meeting on June 15.
The annual golf tournament was won by the foursome of Circuit Court Judge Peter Fryefield and attorneys Alan Henderson, David Wiggins and Brett Lucas. Tennis winners were Chris Burns and Kevin Leisure.
The sporting events had special guests with long drive pro Gerry James entertaining the golfers and former pro tennis star MaliVia Washington dropping by to hit a few balls with the tennis players.
