• The Veteran’s Day Parade is Saturday at 11:01 a.m. and guests are invited to wear red, white and blue. Military units, marching bands, floats and balloons will move from the Osborn Center down Water Street, along Bay Street and end at Alltel Stadium. The St. Johns River City Band plays at 1 p.m. at the Landing. Also, several City offices will be closed Friday including City Hall, the Annex, the Yates Building and the County Courthouse.

• City Council member Pat Lockett-Felder is term-limited but she’ll stay involved in politics. Lockett-Felder said she plans to run for State Rep. Terry Fields’ Dist. 14 seat in 2008 when Fields has to step down due to term limits.

• Speaking of Council, word is member Lad Daniels is not happy about his name appearing on a full-page ad in Monday’s Times-Union. The ad was paid for by Neighbors Protecting Neighbors and thanks many for their support in keeping Cecil Field a commerce center. Daniels supports the Navy’s return and wrote a letter to the editor stating such in Monday’s issue.

• The Jacksonville Human Rights Commission will host an interactive lecture with Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, an authority on the psychology of racism. The event is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the WJCT Public Broadcasting Studios near Metro Park and it’s free and open to the public.

• The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is looking for volunteers who can participate in the Florida Butterfly Monitoring Network, a program that determines population trends in common and imperiled varieties. Training sessions will be held Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the PepsiCo Education Campus at the zoo. Training will include butterfly anatomy and how to identify types of butterflies. If you’re interested in volunteering, call 757-4463 ext. 200. Only 50 butterfly monitors will be accepted.

• Synovus Bank is now open on the Southbank. Their new location is at 1326 Prudential Dr., next to The Wine Cellar.

• Attorney Gilbert Wright Jr. has moved his offices from East Arlington, near Queens Harbor to Downtown. His new office is at 76 S. Laura St.

• Mayor John Peyton’s Holiday Festival for senior citizens is from 2-5 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Osborn Center. Dinner will be served at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $2 for those 60 years old and over. For more information or to register call 630-7392. Deadline for registration is Nov. 30.

• Robert Krampf of St. Augustine is donating a copy of his new science DVD, called “Processes That Shape the Earth” to every public elementary school in Florida as a way to help students do well on Florida’s Science FCAT. Krampf has taught science for more than 30 years in Florida.

• Correction. In a story last week we said attorney Hugh Cotney went to Paxon High. Cotney is a graduate of Orange Park High.
