• Mayor John Peyton has two big appearances next week. Tuesday, he’ll be at JMOMA where he’ll address ImpactJax, a group of young professionals. He’ll be featured in the first segment of the group’s “VOICE Spotlight Series.” Wednesday, the mayor will hold his quarterly “Mayor’s Older Buddies” get together at Metro Park. He and Sheriff John Rutherford will talk about senior safety and the role grandparents play. Over 600 are expected to attend.
• AXIA Public Relations and Marketing has expanded to the state capital. The agency now has offices in Jacksonville, Amelia Island and Tallahassee. Megan Fuhrmeister has been promoted and will oversee the Tallahassee agency.
• Another delay for the completion of the Mary Dillon Fountain in Klutho Park in Springfield. It was supposed to be complete this week, but it has taken longer than expected for the memorial bricks to arrive. The Springfield Women’s Club is now aiming for the end of October.
• Big motorcycle ride Oct. 13. The “Light the City II” police motorcycle charity ride gets underway at 7 p.m. and starts at Alltel Stadium. After winding around town, the ride will end at the Landing. The ride is sponsored by several including Venus Swimwear, Adamec Harley-Davidson/Buell and others. Proceeds benefit the Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police Foundation, the Northeast Florida Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors and the Police Athletic League of Jacksonville.
• Florida Coastal School of Law will host attorney and author Kim Walton Tuesday from noon-1:15 p.m. Walton’s visit is part of the school’s ongoing speaker series available for first year students. The topic is “Guerrilla tactics and how to land the legal job of your dreams.” Walton penned a book on the subject a few years back.
• The City of Jacksonville’s Department of Parks, Recreation, Entertainment and Conservation will be hosting “Art in the Park” 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 14 at Riverside Park in Five Points. There will be several workshops including drawing, painting, ceramics, photography and crafts. There will also be live entertainment.
• Update on College and Post streets in Riverside. The switch to two-way has been postponed for another few weeks due to contractor delays. Marcy Cook, spokeswoman for the Public Works department, said the streets may not switch on the same day.
