A lot can happen in a weekend.

Between the end of last week and 8 a.m. Monday morning, the staff of two dozen at the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission packed up everything that filled almost two full floors of office space at the City Hall Annex and moved it a few blocks to the JEDC’s new home at the Police & Fire Pension Fund Building on Adams Street.

Ron Barton, executive director of the JEDC, kept a collection of personal mementos as well as a few things that motivated and inspired him in his office at the Annex. He was unpacking those things Monday and making himself at home in his new office.

In fact, the entire staff was in “unpacking mode” Monday and getting used to where things are in their new digs.

While the view out the windows isn’t as spectacular at the new location, working in a three-story building does have an advantage that has been already realized by at least one member of the JEDC staff:

“When we have a fire drill now, we won’t have to walk down 14 flights of stairs!”
