• The First Wednesday Art Walk on May 2 will celebrate National Historic Preservation Month with docent tours of several Downtown landmarks. Two of the highlights of the tour will be architect Henry Klutho’s St. James Building and the First Baptist Church. Pamela Edwards-Roine will give a one-hour course on Downtown Jacksonville’s history outside of the Main Library at 8 p.m. The USO and the Landing will have a patriotic mural in the courtyard where Art Walkers can paint or write an encouraging note to our troops. Art Walk is from 5-9 p.m. and open to the public.

• The Department of Environmental Protection’s Fort Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach is offering a candlelight tour of one of the most well-preserved 19th century forts in the country. The event is May 4 and the tour begins at 8:30 p.m. Guests will be lead through the fort by a Union soldier. Reservations are required and costs $3 per person for fort admission and $5 per vehicle for park admission. For more information or to make reservations call 277-7274.

• The Convention Center Task Force will meet from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Hyatt. The market support and infrastructure subcommittee will present its findings. If you plan to attend, please call Chandra Echols at 396-3052.

• Over 640 people attended the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens’ ExZOOberation garden party on April 14. ExZOOberation is the Zoo’s annual fundraiser that benefit’s the Zoo and Gardens.

• Jeff Whitson joined Clear Channel Television this week as the new vice president and general manager for TV-30 and TV-47 and digital station VTV (WAWS-DT2). Whitson was previously vice president and general manager of Clear Channel‘s FOX affiliate station in Albany and served as both local and national sales manager at the two Jacksonville stations from 1996-2000.

• EverBank has appointed David Conover to the position of senior vice president and head of the EverBank Advisor Services Group (ASG). He was previously the national sales director of ASG. Conover has 28 years experience in the financial services industry. He began his career with First Fidelity Bank (now Wachovia Bank) and was a senior vice president at Merrill Lynch Trust Company prior to joining EverBank in 2004.

• An afternoon of high tea and high fashion benefiting the Children’s Home Society of Florida will be held May 5 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Main Library. Tea and a light lunch will be served during a fashion show provided by Jaffi’s, Cabi, kyds and Karl’s. Models will include members of The Roar of the Jaguars and other local amateur and professional models. Tickets are $30 per person. For information, call 493-7738.
