• The Jacksonville Bankruptcy Bar Association has elected its officers and board members for 2007-08: Cynthia Jackson, chair; Rehan Kwahaja, president; Lynn Drysdale, vice president; Christopher Tomlinson, secretary; Michael Cecil, treasurer; and Nina LaFleur, Jacob Brown, Edward, Jackson, Jerret McConnell, Adina Pollan and Robert Wilcox, board members.
• LandMar is making progress on its marina at the Shipyards, but most isn’t visible. The State Department of Environmental Protection ran a legal notice last week of its intent to issue a permit for the 203-slip marina and associated dock structures.
• The Jaguars are still tight-lipped about a potential sponsor for the stadium but Bill Prescott — the team’s senior VP of stadium operations and CFO — said the team is currently negotiating with several companies. “We are hoping to make an announcement before we play football,” said Prescott, adding the announcement may come before the first home preseason game (Aug. 18 against Tampa Bay) or before the regular season opener Sept. 9 against Tennessee. “We are looking for the right partnership and the right deal.”
• Ch. 4 recently conducted an on-line poll asking viewers to grade Duval County School Superintendent Joseph Wise. Of the 2,376 votes cast, 1,182 (50 percent) gave Wise a grade of F. Six percent gave him an A, 2 percent a B, 12 percent a C and 25 percent a D. Four percent gave him an incomplete grade.
• The City’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Cemeteries will hold a public hearing Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Citizens will have the opportunity to address their concerns about area cemeteries. The Commission will conduct a study on local cemeteries starting in September and will consider the input from Tuesday’s meeting in the study.
• The Jacksonville Regional Office of Catholic Charities has announced the new Board of Directors for 2007-2008: John Oetjen III, chair; Deacon George Good, vice chair; Thomas J. Reilly III, secretary-treasurer and chair of the finance committee; Kevin H. Gartland, chair emeritus; Paul Arrington, chair of the board affairs committee; Mark Bowen, chair of the operations committee; Lucille Trotter, chair of the development committee; and Bill Beitz, diocesan director of Catholic Charities Bureau, Inc.
