The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens will host a Toga Party to carry on the tradition of Saturnalia, an ancient Roman holiday celebrating the arrival of the winter solstice.

The Toga Party is from 7-11 p.m. Dec. 20 at the museum.

“In true Cummer fashion, the Toga Party will be extraordinary,” said Maarten van de Guchte, museum director. “We encourage everyone to arrive in togas and enjoy the Saturnalia celebration in ancient Roman style.”

The event is being held in conjunction with the Cummer Museum’s current exhibit, “Art from the Ashes: In Stabiano, Exploring the Ancient Seaside Villas of the Roman Elite.”

The event will feature music by DJ Catharsis, Etruscan Dance and the folioweekly Toga Contest. The exhibit, which is at its last stop of nine American museums, will serve as the backdrop for the event.

The event is sponsored by folioweekly. Tickets are $30 for members and $40 for non-members and guests. Tickets can be purchased at www.cummer.org or by calling 899-6016.
