Canteen aiding the rescue effort

The Salvation Army dispatched the Northeast Florida mobile kitchen unit to serve emergency responders and others affected by the collapse of the parking garage at The Berkman Plaza II on the Northbank. The mobile kitchen, or “canteen,” served lunch, dinner, snacks and plenty of cold beverages to fire and rescue workers, police, volunteers and other disaster personnel. On Friday, the largest Jacksonville canteen, which departed immediately following the collapse, had served more than 500 meals.
