Those attending the Fraternal Order of Police Christmas Party Friday got a practice run at filling up their bellies for the upcoming holidays feasts sure to follow four days later.

“There’s so much food, it’s crazy,” said FOP President Nelson Cuba. He said he expected to feed between 600 and 700 hungry FOP members, dignitaries and their families during the party, which lasted for four hours starting at 11 a.m.

“I really enjoy seeing the members and the faces that I don’t see throughout the year,” said Cuba. “It’s always good to see people as happy as they are this time of year.”

The menu included a roast, smoked ham, turkey, shrimp, stuffing, a green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese – and for dessert – a flowing chocolate fountain surrounded by marshmallows, Rice Krispie treats and Oreos for dipping.

“We cooked it all ourselves,” said Cuba proudly. “We have a FOP cooking crew.”

The event also featured a bar and margaritas, a rarity at FOP lodge 5-30 on Beach Boulevard.

“It’s the one time a year that we serve alcohol at an event,” said Cuba.
