Ceree Harden walked into Thursday’s Jacksonville Economic Development Commission as its chairman. He left with a resolution, plaque and crystal gavel thanking him for his time.

Harden, who resigned several weeks ago, will be replaced by Bob Rhodes, an attorney with Foley & Lardner and a former chairman of the now defunct Downtown Development Authority. Rhodes presented the resolution to Harden for his work on behalf of the City and thanked him for helping promote job creation, Downtown revitalization, the creation of a business plan for the JEDC and many other things.

“Often times you had very thick skin, and it was needed,” said Rhodes.

JEDC Executive Director Ron Barton presented Harden with a plaque and crystal gavel on behalf of the entire JEDC staff. Barton and Harden worked together for the past 18 months.

“Some days I curse you, but most days I thank you,” said Barton. “You have been a great advisor and mentor these first 18 months.”

Always vocal Commissioner Charles Appleby also had a parting comment for Harden.

“Before you, you weren’t expected to ask questions [at meetings]. In fact, you were looked down upon if you asked questions,” said Appleby. “You have changed that.”
