Schickel, others re-elected to Bar Board

Jacksonville lawyer Jake Schickel is one of 18 incumbents statewide who were re-elected recently without opposition to The Florida Bar’s Board of Governors.

In other elections, eight lawyers are running in three contested Florida Bar Board of Governors races. All board members take office in June.

Two new board members were elected without opposition for two-year terms:

• L. Norman Vaughan-Birch of Sarasota, 12th Circuit, Seat 1. He replaces retiring board member Kimberly A. Bald.

• Juliet M. Roulhac of Miami, 11th Circuit, Seat 6. She replaces retiring board member Sharon L. Langer.

Incumbents re-elected without opposition for two-year terms beginning in 2007 are:

• Lawrence E. Sellers Jr. of Tallahassee, 2nd Circuit, Seat 1.

• Denise A. Lyn of Inverness, 5th Circuit, Seat 1.

• Murray B. Silverstein of St. Petersburg, 6th Circuit, Seat 2.

•Carl B. Schwait of Gainesville, 8th Circuit, Seat 1.

• Daniel L. DeCubellis of Orlando, 9th Circuit, Seat 2.

• David Rothman of Miami, 11th Circuit, Seat 2.

• Steven E. Chaykin of Miami, 11th Circuit, Seat 8.

• William Kalish of Tampa, 13th Circuit, Seat 2.

• Gwynne A. Young of Tampa, 13th Circuit, Seat 3.

• Gregory W. Coleman of West Palm Beach, 15th Circuit, Seat 2.

• Lisa S. Small of Palm Beach, 15th Circuit, Seat 4.

• Edwin A. Scales of Key West, 16th Circuit, Seat 1.

• Nancy W. Gregoire of Fort Lauderdale, 17th Circuit, Seat 2.

• Eugene K. Pettis of Fort Lauderdale, 17th Circuit, Seat 3.

• Frank C. Walker II of Fort Lauderdale, 17th Circuit, Seat 5.

• Andrew L. Ringers of Fort Myers, 20th Circuit, Seat 2.

• Richard Arthur Tanner of New Jersey, out-of-state, Seat 1.

Running in contested races are:

• In the 11th Circuit, Seat 4: Incumbent Jennifer R. Coberly is being challenged by Lawrence F. Kaine. Both are from Miami.

• In the 19th Circuit, Seat 1: Alan O. Forst, Palm City; Gean Cary Junginger Jr., Fort Pierce; Richard H. Levenstein, Stuart; and John M. Stewart, Vero Beach, are vying for the seat of retiring board member Harold G. Melville.

• In the out-of-state, Seat 3, W. Bard Brockman of Atlanta and Eric L. Meeks of Cincinnati are vying for the seat of retiring board member Gary J. Leppla.

Ballots in the contested races will be mailed by March 1. All votes must be received by midnight March 21. Bar members will have the choice of voting by paper ballot or electronically via the Internet.

Instructions on voting will be included with the ballots. The Bar’s 52-member board consists of the president and president-elect, the president and president-elect of the Young Lawyers Division, representatives elected by members of the Bar from each of the state’s 20 judicial circuits, four out-of-state representatives elected by Florida Bar members who reside outside of Florida, and two public members appointed by the Florida Supreme Court.

The Board of Governors has exclusive authority to formulate and adopt matters of policy concerning the activities of the Bar, subject to limitations imposed by The rules regulating The Florida Bar. The following are dates for Florida Bar Board of Governors meetings this year. For most of the dates below, the committees of the Board will meet on Thursday and the Board of Governors will meet on Friday.

• Jan. 25-27: Tallahassee; The Florida Bar offices

• March 28-31: Tampa; the Renaissance Hotel

• May 30-June 2: Key West; Hilton Resort

• June 27-30: Annual meeting; Orlando World Center Marriott

• Sept. 5-8: General meeting of committees and sections; Tampa Airport Marriott
