• Gator Bowl Association President Rick Catlett has offered the City 13 spots in the RV lot near the stadium for use during the week of the Florida State-Alabama game. The spots have been dubbed the “Mayor’s Lot.”
• Big party at the Carling Saturday night. The Guys with Ties of Jacksonville is having a “White Party” from 9-10 p.m. and the proceeds go to The Donna Hicken Foundation. The philanthropic group raises money for various organizations in Jacksonville. According to the invite “stylish white attire is required.”
• JTA is looking to start development of a transit station at the I-95/Golfair Boulevard interchange as part of its Bus Rapid Transit system restructuring. According to JTA Executive Director Mike Blaylock, “We envision developing a station for line haul and local bus service, as well as kiss and ride service at this location.” In order to bring the project to fruition, JTA needs to acquire two parcels of land. Blaylock is currently negotiating with the private property owner for one and looking to acquire the other from the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission.

• Bill Warner, chairman of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, has announced that motorsports legend Parnelli Jones will be the honoree for the 13th annual vintage automobile show scheduled for March 7-9, 2008 at the Golf Club of Amelia Island. Jones has been racing since 1950 and has earned championships in a multitude of racing series, including being named “Co-Rookie of the Year” following his 12th-place finish in the 1961 Indianapolis 500. The Concours d’Elegance Foundation has donated more than $1.5 million of the proceeds from the event to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida since 1996. • Former Atlantic Beach mayor John Meserve and current candidate will kick off his campaign next Monday with a rally at Culhane’s Irish Pub & Restaurant at 6 p.m. Culhane’s is in the Publix shopping center on Atlantic Boulevard. Current Atlantic Beach Mayor Don Wolfson is not seeking re-election.
• The Northeast Florida Builders Association will host its “Family back-to-School Bash” Aug. 9 at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens. Adult admission is $15, $10 for childrens’ tickets for the event that begins at 6 p.m. Prizes will be given away and dinner will be served at the Range of the Jaguars exhibit.
