City Council President-Designate Daniel Davis has made his Council standing committee assignments for the 2007-08 Council year. Five returning members of Council are chairing committees while Jay Jabour is the only newcomer to be named a committee chair.
Six of the Council members — Clay Yarborough, Richard Clark, Denise Lee, Mia Jones, Stephen Joost and Jabour — were assigned to three committee. The other 13 Council members were assigned to two committees. Yarborough was named the Council chaplain while Art Graham was named floor leader.
Two committees have been renamed. The Audit committee is now Public Health and Safety and the Economic, Community and International Development committee is now Recreation and Community Development.
All of the committees meet in Council Chambers. The complete committee assignments and their meeting day and time are as follows:
• Finance (Monday, 2 p.m.) — Art Shad (chair), Kevin Hyde (vice chair), Graham, Lee, Jabour, Clark and Joost.
• Land Use and Zoning (Tuesday, 5 p.m.) — Michael Corrigan (chair), Yarborough (vice chair), Lee, Clark, Jack Webb, Shad and Jones.
• Public Health and Safety (Monday, 4 p.m.) — Hyde (chair), Jones (vice chair), Don Redman, Yarborough, Joost, Ray Holt and Johnny Gaffney.
• Transportation, Energy & Utilities (Tuesday, 10 a.m.) — Clark (chair), Glorious Johnson (vice chair), Warren Jones, Jabour, Bill Bishop, Redman and Holt.
• Rules (Monday 10 a.m.) — Jabour (chair), Warren Jones (vice chair), Webb, Yarborough, Lee, Ronnie Fussell and Corrigan.
• Recreation and Community Development (Tuesday, 2 p.m.) — Graham (chair), Joost (vice chair), Johnson, Fussell, Mia Jones, Bishop and Gaffney.
