Attorneys Floyd Matthews Jr. and Robert Guild have formed the law firm of Matthews & Guild in the historic Louise Fletcher building in Riverside. Before creating the firm, Matthews was a partner at Spohrer, Wilner, Maxwell & Matthews. Guild was also at the firm. The new firm will focus on complex civil litigation involving catastrophic injuries, wrongful death and disputes.
• The Art Institute of Jacksonville makes its mark with a splash – a splash of color, that is. The city’s newest school will celebrate its grand opening March 29 by splashing paint onto an oversized canvas and then allowing guests to leave their signatures on it. City Council President Michael Corrigan is scheduled to attend the event, along with a list of other community leaders. The opening ceremony begins at noon and the splashing revs up at 12:15 p.m. For more information, call 486-3000.
• Tickets will go on sale April 1 for the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Jacksonville’s “Mosaic” celebration. The event is April 21 and it is an annual fundraiser for the museum. Mosaic is from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. with dancing, cocktails and DJs in the museum’s warehouse and second floor galleries. For tickets call the museum at 366-6911.
• The City of Jacksonville is welcoming the tall ships to the City. Those in attendance will enjoy self-guided tours of the ships, a pirates battle, ship race, St. Johns River tours and more. The tall ships will be in town May 4-6 along Downtown’s riverfront.
• Correction. The physics behind NASCAR convention/lecture series presented by the American Physics Society at the Hyatt is April 14-17.
• The City’s Housing & Neighborhoods Department was busy Friday moving from the Police and Fire Pension Fund building to the Ed Ball Building. The 65-80 employees will occupy the eighth floor.
