• Several polling locations will change for the May 15 elections. Six locations including two at Florida Community College at Jacksonville’s South Campus and Fire Station No. 14 in Riverside will relocate. According to the elections office, these sites either aren’t available May 15 or those who own or run the properties have indicated they no longer wish to be a polling location.
• Cheryl Grymes, who recently ran for City Council and lost, has resigned from the Enterprise/Empowerment Zone Board. She cited the “need to eliminate some of my volunteer assignments.”
• Due to scheduling conflicts, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra’s concert, “A Tribute to the Grateful Dead” that was scheduled for April 14, has been rescheduled to May 18 at 8 p.m. If you have tickets, hold onto them, because they will be honored on May 18.
• The University of North Florida is having an opening reception April 5 from 5-7 p.m. for “The Student Annual” art gallery. The art will be on display through May 2 in the University Gallery.
• Clarification. In a City Note Wednesday we omitted a partner in the law firm partnered by Bill Cooper and George Ridge that recently moved to Bay Street. Richard Lantinberg is also a partner in the Law Firm of Cooper Ridge & Lantinberg.
• Another correction. Attorney Charles McBurney has expressed interest in running for Mark Mahon’s State Rep. seat. Representative Mahon is term-limited and will have to step down in 2008. McBurney plans to open his campaign account next week. We were not able to confirm at press time that Representative Mahon has indicated support for any candidate.
• Walter Lorenz Surgical, Inc. — a surgical equipment manufacturer in the Tradeport business park on the Northside — has a new name. It’s now Biomet Microfixation and the company is hosting an event Monday to commemorate the change. There’s an open house, tours and lunch, but it’s invite only.
• Brad Estrin, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Suddath Relocations Systems, has received United Van Lines’ 2007 Sales Achievement Award. The California native started his career as a dispatcher and has more than 30 years experience in the relocation industry. In 1993, he was named president and general manager of Suddath relocation Systems of Los Angeles and soon doubled the branch’s warehousing and office space. He came to the corporate office in Jacksonville in 1999 and manages all marketing and public relations functions for the Suddath Companies and its subsidiaries.
