• The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is hosting “Conserving Water in the Garden” at the Zoo’s Education Campus at 9:30 a.m. on June 2. A representative from the St. John’s River Water Management District will talk about why we need to conserve water. Admission is $15 for Zoo members and $20 for non-members.

• Bands will be performing live all weekend at the Landing to celebrate Memorial Day. Live entertainment will continue through 9 p.m. Monday night. The Landing’s Mall will close at 5 p.m., but the restaurants will remain open later.

• City Council President Michael Corrigan has been selected by the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission to receive a 2007 Historic Preservation Award. Corrigan will be recognized next Wednesday during a ceremony at the Main Library.

• Cygnet Financial Corporation of Ponte Vedra has merged with Tampa-based Florida Bank Group, Inc. The merger is subject to regulatory and shareholder approval and is expected to close in the third quarter of this year. Bank of North Florida, which is based Downtown, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Florida Bank Group.

• Ed Attalla is back with the Jacksonville Suns as the club’s head groundskeeper. He left the team at the end of last year for a similar job with the University of Florida, but rejoined the Suns last month. Attalla has been named the Southern League’s Groundskeeper of the Year four years in a row.
