For over two decades, Boots Farley has been head professional at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club. Thursday, Farley announced that he is leaving his post effective July 1.

Farley grew up in the Jacksonville area and has been a golf professional for 33 years — the past 23 at Jacksonville Beach — and has had a major impact on golf in Northeast Florida over that time span.

In 2006, he won the North Florida Section Bill Strausbaugh award for mentoring his fellow professionals in improving their employment situations and through service to the community. Farley also helped develop what is now the North Florida PGA Junior Tour and initiated the junior programs at Jacksonville Beach, ensuring that young golfers will always have a strong future in the area.

Farley will take a job outside of golf.

“I have been offered a tremendous opportunity outside the golf profession and I am very excited about starting this career,” he said. “I have certainly enjoyed my years as a golf professional and am grateful for all the friends I have made. However, I am ready for a change and new challenges.”

In the last few years, Farley has seen major changes at the municipal course including the renovation of many holes, the driving range and the construction of a brand new clubhouse.

“I want to give special thanks to the City of Jacksonville Beach for their strong support through the years. It is their continued encouragement and backing that has made the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club one of the finest municipal golf courses in North Florida,” he said.
