• JEA will honor outgoing City Council President Michael Corrigan during a June 27 lunch at the JEA building on West Church Street. It’s $20 per person and sponsorships are available. JEA will also recognize the rest of Council and staff members.
• Speaking of Corrigan, he recently asked incoming Council President Daniel Davis to continue two of his initiatives when Davis takes over July 2: keep the Council committee week at two days and create a standing committee from Corrigan’s Special Committee for a Safer Jacksonville.
• David Strickland of EverBank of Florida contributed to Mayor John Peyton’s re-election campaign and recently got what he called a “substantial portion” back in the mail. Rather than pocket the money, Strickland donated it to the Youth Crisis Center.
• In a City Note Monday we misidentified attorney Lawsikia Hodges of the Office of General Counsel.
• The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Choir from Port Elizabeth, South Africa will visit Jacksonville next Friday. The group will be at the University of North Florida’s University Center from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Port Elizabeth is part of the Jacksonville Sister Cities Association network.
• The Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. Stewards and the developers of the Shipyards are hosting an event this evening to acquaint those unfamiliar with Downtown with the community’s amenities and advantages. LandMar President and CEO Ed Burr is serving as host and the event is at the Shipyards from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Others scheduled to speak include architect Jack Diamond of Rink Design, Jacksonville Economic Development Commission Executive Director Ron Barton and Downtown Vision, Inc. Executive Director Terry Lorince.
• McGuireWoods attorney Adrienne Conrad has resigned from the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women. Conrad cited her busy schedule which includes serving on the City’s Planning Commission.
