• At Thursday’s Tourist Development Council meeting, City Council member Michael Corrigan said the TDC and The Players Championship usually work together. However, that won’t be the case next year when he and Charlene Shirk compete in the “Stars Dance for the Castle” contest to benefit Pine Castle. “You’ve got to hope the nerdy guy wins,” said Corrigan.

• In a unanimous vote Tuesday, the St. Johns River Water Management District Governing Board re-elected David Graham of Jacksonville to serve as board chairman for a third consecutive term. Graham, who is chairman and CEO of InTuition Development Holding LLC, was appointed to a four-year term on the nine-member governing board in March 2001 and was reappointed in 2005. The Board also elected Susan Hughes of Ponte Vedra Beach as vice chairman, Ann Moore of Bunnell as secretary and W. Leonard Wood of Fernandina Beach as treasurer. Board members meet monthly and are responsible for setting the policies for the District’s operation. They are appointed by the governor to four-year terms and serve without pay.

• Speaking of the Water Management District, Council President Daniel Davis and Council member Bill Bishop are scheduled to meet Nov. 27 to discuss the District’s plan to draw water from the St. Johns River. The plan has come under scrutiny from environmental groups, such as the St. Johns Riverkeeper, over proposals to draw as much as 155 million gallons a day from the river in order to meet the growing demands of Central Florida. The meeting is set for 3:30 p.m. in conference room B in the City Council offices at City Hall.
