• The Norman Studios Silent Film Museum will present the first installment of “Silent Sundays” Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. The series will debut with the classic silent film “Son of the Shiek” starring Rudolph Valentino and Vilma Banky. It will be screened at Club Savoy at 6354 Arlington Rd., where there will also be a pre-film reception, live music, silent auction and a cash bar. • Hallmark Partners is holding a big fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at the stadium Sunday and it’ll also be a good chance to gather and watch the Jaguars play the Broncos in Denver. • All hands on deck: There were stacks of postcards on many of the executive council assistants’ desks at City Hall last week. Council member Ray Holt is hosting a town meeting and the project was getting some help putting address labels on 4,000 invitations.
• Clarification: In a story last Wednesday, we said NAS Jacksonville currently pays $875,000 a year in stormwater fees. According to Jessica Deal, director of government affairs for the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce, the figure is an estimate of what NAS will pay if the proposed fees are passed.
• Florida Coastal School of Law had 84.4 percent of their students pass the Florida Bar Exam, which is the highest in school history. The results of the exam, which was administered in late July, were posted Monday.
• Attorney General Bill McCollum will be in town Thursday evening for a reception hosted by the Republican Party of Duval County. It’s at the home of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida lobbyist Mike Hightower and his wife Sue. Hightower is the former chair of the local GOP.
• Speaking of Thursday, the Tourist Development Council is meeting at 2 p.m. and the agenda includes a discussion about funding three positions within the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission.
• Correction. Earth Day was not Sept. 8, the day the management at the Bank of America building removed the trees from the south, east and north sides of the building. The 30 trees will be replaced by 15-17 foot East Palatka Hollies.
• Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. will hold its annual meeting Oct. 12 at 8:30 a.m at River City Brewery. The guest speaker is Dr. Yank Coble, the director of the University of North Florida’s Center for Global Health and Medical Diplomacy.
