The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida Tuesday publicly thanked and honored dozens of volunteers who have helped promote the services of the Salvation Army over the past year. Held at the Cummer Museum, over 250 individual and corporate volunteers were honored including the Daily Record, which was recognized with the Media Award. Mike Sharkey (left) of the Daily Record accepted the award from Maj. Jim Arrowood.

“You put the word out which ultimately helps those in need,” said Arrowood. “You let Northeast Florida know what we do. Today, we celebrate and thank the volunteers.”

Arrowood said over 160,000 people annually walk into the Northeast Florida Salvation Army offices seeking any of many services or programs. He said for every dollar the Salvation Army raises, 85 cents goes back into the community.

Former Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics Shannon Miller was the guest speaker at the event that also featured Firehouse Subs for lunch.
