• There are a limited number of tickets still available for the mayor’s holiday festival for senior citizens. Local seniors can celebrate the holidays with dancing, dining, live entertainment, door prizes and more. It’s Saturday at the Convention Center from 2-5 p.m. and the cost is $5 per person. • Looking for some local flavor at lunch? Coach’s Corner at The Landing offers peel-and-eat Mayport shrimp by the pound and half pound.

• Mayor John Peyton’s former Chief of Communications Susie Wiles was at City Hall again Monday. Wiles was nominated by Peyton to serve on the Jacksonville Journey Oversight Committee and she had to appear before the City Council Rules Committee. Her term will expire Dec. 31, 2012.

• Speaking of Council, President Ronnie Fussell has appointed the two newest members to their standing committees. Reggie Brown will serve on the Transportation, Energy & Utilities and Land Use & Zoning committees. John Crescimbeni will serve on the Public Health & Safety and Recreation & Community Development committees.

• The Taxation, Revenue and Utilization of Expenditures Commission will hold its last regular meeting of the year Thursday. It’s at 4 p.m. in Council Chambers.

• Night running: If you’re in San Marco Sunday evening and see a horde of jingle bell-clad runners, don’t be alarmed – they’re just participants in the Festival of Lights 5k. The 3.1-mile race will have luminaries guiding the way from start to finish, with the Baptist Eye Institute serving as both. Registration is open until Dec. 6 and entry fees start at $20, with proceeds benefitting the Children’s Miracle Network. For more information, go to www.1stplacesports.com.

• At its Dec. 15 meeting, the Jacksonville Ethics Commission Nominating Subcommittee will discuss a Commission vacancy and the Commission’s vice-chair position. Anyone interested in the vacancy can submit a resume and statements describing why you want to be on the Ethics Commission and what qualifies you to be on the Commission by Wed., Dec. 10 to Carla Miller at [email protected] or fax to Christine Lyle, Ethics Office, at 630-2388.

• Though the season hasn’t gone as expected, Jaguar season ticket holders can smile about something: Soon they’ll be receiving a Christmas card from Wayne and Delores Weaver and the Jaguar family as well as a series of holiday-inspired trading cards. The 10-card set features pictures and holiday memories of quarterback David Garrard, tight end Marcedes Lewis, running back Fred Taylor, linebacker Mike Peterson, offensive linemen Tony Pashos and Khalif Barnes, kicker Josh Scobee, safety Reggie Nelson, defensive lineman Rob Meier and linebacker Daryl Smith.
