• Jacksonville Economic Development Commission Chair Bob Rhodes has resigned from the JEDC effective Jan. 1. Rhodes has been a member of either the JEDC or the defunct Downtown Development Authority for the past nine years. An attorney, he’s also going on sabbatical from his law firm Foley & Lardner and will serve as practitioner in residence at the Georgia State College of Law and affiliate with Georgia Tech.
• The Omni Hotel is designing its float for the Dec. 31 Gator Bowl Parade. As a way to raise money for the project, General Manager Scott Stuckey will “take one for the team” next Friday from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the parking lot next to the hotel. He will be the guest of honor in a dunking tank and for a $5 donation to the float fund you’ll get three chances to make Stuckey take the plunge.
• A city note in Wednesday’s edition describing Circuit Court Judge Bernard Nachman’s future was a little premature. While Nachman’s retirement ceremony is Thursday, he will not officially retire until January of 2009, and while he hasn’t gained certification as a mediator, he is in the process of earning that certification.
• Also, Wednesday’s story on foreclosure implied that those seeking help through Jacksonville Area Legal Aid must go through financial counseling first. That is not required to get foreclosure help from JALA.
• Marshall Adams, director of education and exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Jacksonville, has resigned to take a position at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. Cathy Fitzpatrick, who has been on the museum’s staff for two years, has been promoted to associate director of education. A permanent director of education will not be appointed until after the MOCA’s affiliation agreement with the University of North Florida is in effect.
