• The Jacksonville Symphony Chorus will hold auditions for Mozart’s “Requiem” Jan. 10 at 9 a.m. in the Phillips Fine Arts Building at Jacksonville University. The chorus will join the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra for performances April 16-18 in Jacoby Symphony Hall at the T-U Center. Singers interested in auditioning may call 354-5479, ext. 221 for an appointment. Details are also available at www.jaxsymphony.org.

• Citing “events in the region” H.E. Hussain Haqqani, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the United States, has canceled his appearance Jan. 13 at the World Affairs Council’s Global Issues Evening at the University of North Florida. • HabiJax has received the Regional Award for Excellence in Affordable Housing at the 2008 Northeast Florida Elected Officials Reception & Regional Leadership Awards Ceremony hosted by the Northeast Florida Regional Council. The award recognizes best practices and innovation in affordable home ownership. HabiJax is the Jacksonville affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. In the past 20 years, HabiJax has helped 1,600 families achieve home ownership.
