The stars were aligned and the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors blasted off into the new year with its installation of new officers and board directors during a January gala.

With a theme of “Reaching for the Stars,” the space-themed event had all the cosmic details from the decorations to the itinerary to the dialogue.

“We thought about supplying space food,” joked NEFAR Executive Director Glenn East, referring to the freeze dried and powdered food that astronauts eat. Instead, attendees were treated to multiple buffets.

The 2008 NEFAR “Star Fleet Team” (officers and directors) of President Bonnie Seicker of Century 21 Dames Point Realty, President-Elect Millie Kanyar of Watson Realty, Treasurer Carol Hill of Prudential Network Realty and Secretary Dane Leslie of Prudential was installed.

The “Mission Commander Recognition” of 2007 President Hank Oltmanns of A Broker’s Choice Realty was an emotional one, as Oltmanns proclaimed his pride for the board of directors and everyone involved in the association during the year.

“We lived 2007 and survived it,” he said. “Now let’s take on 2008.”

Oltmanns will serve on the board of directors.

After ceremoniously passing the president’s name tag off to Seicker, it was her turn to address the crowd.

“It has to start with us,” said Seicker, “Let’s make sure we let the public know that now is the time to buy.”
