• JTA is going out of its way to make sure everyone is completely informed about the changes transportation authority officials would like to make to the JTA charter. In a three-page letter to City Council President Daniel Davis and Mayor John Peyton, JTA Executive Director Mike Blaylock explains JTA’s role in the growth of Jacksonville and the necessity of updating Chapter 349 of the Florida Statutes which governs the administration of JTA. Blaylock has asked State Rep. Audrey Gibson to postpone the legislation until he has been able to meet with Davis and Peyton and further explain the need for the changes.

• OneJax has announced the recipients of this year’s Humanitarian Awards, which will be given out April 29. Michael Korn will be presented with the coveted Silver Medallion Award for his contributions to the community. Also being honored are Gertrude Peele, who will receive only the fifth Gold Medallion in the history of the award, Dr. Jim Burt, who will receive a Presidential Citation, and Deborah Pass, who will receive the Acosta-Rua Youth Leadership Award. The event will take place at the Hyatt, and tickets are $200 with tables of 10 costing $2,000. For more information, call 354-1JAX (1529).

• Be on the lookout for the Easter Bunny at Jacksonville area Simon Malls next month. The rabbit will be at The Avenues Feb. 29-March 22 and the Orange Park Mall from March 7-22. Other holiday activities include an Easter Bunny Breakfast at the Orange Park Mall March 15 at 9 a.m. in the Food Court and the First Annual Easter Egg Hunt for kids up to 12 years old at the St. Johns Town Center March 22 at 10 a.m. in front of Maggiano’s.
