• State Attorney Harry Shorstein released his office’s trial stats for the first part of the year. During the first six months, the SAO has a 100 percent conviction rate in 20 murder jury trials. Shorstein said his office also has an 87 percent conviction rate in 98 non-murder trials.

• The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department will graduate another recruit class next month. The ceremony is Aug. 7 at Florida Community College at Jacksonville’s South Campus.

• It’s had new owners since March, but now “John’s Delicatessen and Grille” at 126 W. Adams Street is known as Adams St. Deli and Grill. The name change doesn’t affect the menu too much, as the restaurant still offers sandwiches, subs and salads.

• The Gator Bowl Association is holding two training session for its Konica Minolta Gator Bowl scouting committee. The one-hour sessions are Aug. 9 and 12 at the GBA offices at the stadium. As the college football season progresses, members of the scouting committee will attend key games to help the Gator Bowl selection committee determine which two teams to invite to the Jan. 1 game. Eligible teams are from the ACC, Big East, Big 12 and Notre Dame.

• Move over Super Bowl trophy. New York Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin will get something else to adore this fall. His daughter, Keli Joyce, is expecting her and husband Chris’ first child in October. The new arrival will push Coughlin’s grandchild total to six.

• The numbers for the Monique Burr annual fundraising event at Roy’s restaurant in Jacksonville Beach are in: $35,000 and 250. That’s how much was raised and how many people attended the event, according to Foundation Executive Director Barbara Florio. The local Foundation serves more than 20,000 children through abuse prevention education each year.

• Cool deal on hot days: Jacksonville-area Starbucks are in the test market for one of the company’s new offers. Buy a regular-priced drink in the morning and on the same day after 2 p.m., return with the stamped “Treat Receipt” and get a 16-ounce (“grande”) cold drink for $2.
