Perhaps the most unusual gated community in North Florida is still looking for buyers.
Many of the renovated railroad cars near Jacksonville Municipal Stadium are still on the market and Re/Max Realtor Susan Kinley is now the agent.
Called “Railcar Entertainment Suites,” the 25 cars are in a “station” just east of the stadium on Adams Street. They’re about 300 yards from the gates and owners include W.W. Gay, Nimnicht Chevrolet, Lumber Unlimited and General Graphics.
The cars have been on the market since 2005. Seven have been sold and the prices have been reduced. The railcars are modeled after the Cockabooses outside the University of South Carolina’s stadium in Columbia, S.C.
Some of the 22 Cockabooses have changed hands but only one has even been publicly put on the market — the rest went to the informal waiting list that one owner keeps and the price today can reach $450,000.
The Jacksonville railroad cars — real railroad cars, by the way — have been refurbished with amenities such as air conditioning, kitchen and a full bath. All units offer flat-screen TVs and they are all connected to Direct TV.
Prices start at $165,000.
Office condo rules apply. The units are managed by Re/Max and a $150 fee is charged monthly. The fee includes insurance, common areas, water bill and management fee and the developer will waive one year of fees with the purchase.
There is a 24-7 access to the gated “station” and a security guard is there during games.
Another advantage the station offers is the motel-hotel zone. Owners can overnight at the station or just wait for traffic to clear.
They can be leased out either through Re/Max or the owner can lease them.
