Every day is a busy day for Sulzbacher Center President and CEO Audrey Moran.
She handles dozens of phone calls, hundreds of e-mails, is in charge of a staff of 120 and sits on numerous boards and is even the chair of the Positive Youth Development subcommittee on Mayor John Peyton’s Jacksonville Journey.
But most days you’ll find Moran at the Center she presides over on East Adams Street handling day-to-day activities for the city’s largest homeless shelter.
Lately, much of her interest and focus with the center is devoted to planning September’s annual “Transformations” fundraising and tribute event for the Center at the Florida Theatre.
“We’re less than 90 days and counting,” said Moran. “It’s a lot of work and planning but it will be a great event.”
Running the Sulzbacher Center isn’t just about events, though.
The Center serves 1,200 meals a day and offers services to an average of 338 people daily, with one-third of those being children, she said.
With the local budget crunch on, Moran said the Center is looking for ways to save money internally, as are many of the other non-profits in Northeast Florida, she said. Even so, the Center is in good shape but always looking for ways to conserve.
With so much on her plate, Moran appreciates the time when she can enjoy the view outside her window, even if it’s only for a few moments.
“There’s always something to do,” said Moran. “But I absolutely love my job.”
