• The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue and Department will open a new fire station next week. The City will cut the ribbon to station No. 59 on W.M. Davis Parkway June 3 at 11:30 a.m.
• Also that day, the Gator Bowl Association will hold a committee meeting at 5 p.m. at the Sawgrass Marriott. Former Players Championship Chairman Brian Goin is this year’s GBA chair.
• Clarification to Tuesday’s story about the Mathews Bridge. According to Florida Department of Transportation spokesman Mike Goldman, the concrete work to replace the grating was complete July 14 of last year. Final repairs were done in October. Also, Mathews Bridge was misspelled.
• Per the State of Florida’s Commission on Ethics, all elected officials have until July 1 to file their financial disclosure forms. Mayor John Peyton received his form last week from Commission Executive Director Philip Claypool. The form asks for net worth, assets, liabilities and income sources.
• Downtown Vision, Inc. and the Blood Alliance have partnered for a blood drive Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Hemming Plaza. Two appointments will be scheduled every 20 minutes and while walk-ins will be welcome, having an appointment will speed the donation process. Call Michelle Brooks at 634-0303 ext. 230 to make a reservation. By the way, one pint of blood can save three lives and every eight minutes, someone in our community needs a blood transfusion. Anyone in good health at least 17 years of age and weighing at least 110 pounds may donate blood every 56 days.
