The practice of law isn’t all about courtrooms and case law.

It’s also about people and networking, and the Young Lawyers Section (YLS) of the Jacksonville Bar Association provided its members a chance to do just that Wednesday night at the Laura Street location of the Jacksonville Bank.

The YLS holds a series of happy hours through the year to give new lawyers a chance to socialize and discuss their experience as they begin their legal careers.

“(The JBA) has a partnership with the Jacksonville Bank and this was a good way to introduce members to one of our partners and the ArtWalk,” said Michelle Bedoya Barnett, member of the YLS Board of Governors. “A lot of the new lawyers aren’t familiar with the events Downtown, so this is a good way to introduce them to one of the city’s regular events.”

The happy hours are held at different locations throughout the year and this event was held a little earlier than normal to attract a wider variety of members said Bedoya Barnett.

“A lot of people get in the car and go home after work,” she said. “This gives them a reason check out what’s going on Downtown.”

The YLS is composed of area young lawyers who are 35 years old or younger, or who have been practicing less than five years.
