The Jacksonville Bar Association held its last monthly meeting before the holidays on Thursday.

The holidays are on the minds of the JBA Board of Governors as they prepare for the association’s annual Holiday Project which is dedicated to providing a happier holiday to senior citizens throughout Jacksonville. Volunteers can sign up to provide a gift to a senior citizen involved with the local Meals on Wheels program. They can either deliver the gift or drop it off at the JBA office to be delivered by a volunteer from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Mike McCoy is chair of the project and can be reached at [email protected].

They may not be holiday events, but retirement parties for Circuit Court Judges Charles Mitchell, Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. and Bernard Nachman, Dec. 18 at 4 p.m., will provide opportunities to recognize two careers that were spent serving the citizens of Jacksonville.

Guest speaker Rick Mullaney recognized the visionaries who developed consolidated government in Jacksonville and what the future holds for the city.

“What makes this city great is its willingness to see the possibilities for the future,” said Mullaney. “I think we have barely scratched the surface of what is possible for Jacksonville.”
