Ties in sporting events have long been labeled the equivalent of “kissing your sister,” but for members of the Meninak Club of Jacksonville and Rotary Club of Jacksonville, it meant everyone won – to a degree.

The two longtime civic organizations renewed their friendly rivalry during an annual charity golf tournament at Timuquana Country Club on Monday with a $1,000 charitable donation from the loser to the winner’s charity of choice on the line.

Only thing is that neither organization will receive the $1,000 from the other as the two teams tied.

Instead, each will split it down the middle and receive $500 apiece from the other for their golfing efforts.

The annual coming together of the two organizations is a tradition members of each faction hold dear.

“It’s two of the longest standing civic organizations with people who make a difference in this city,” said Meninak President Harrison Conyers. “It’s always one of the more fun days of the year when we get together.”

Rotary President Carl Cannon shared in Conyers’ enthusiasm.

“It’s one of those days that’s just a little bit different,” said Cannon, “and you have two outstanding organizations coming together for charity and a little fun.”

Many participants noted that the weather couldn’t have been better, especially considering last year’s washout and subsequent inability to schedule a makeup date.

The afternoon golf outing followed a joint meeting between the two organizations, which normally meet Mondays. Combined, the two organizations had just over 150 members attend.

Meninak member and sports talk radio host David Lamm of AM-930 was the keynote speaker and discussed all-things related to the Georgia-Florida game and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
