• There has been an addition to the public record e-mail boxes on the City Council’s Web page at www.coj.net. Council member Johnny Gaffney is now making his incoming messages available for public inspection, joining his colleagues Glorious Johnson, Kevin Hyde, Daniel Davis and Council President Ronnie Fussell.

• Certified Confectioner Suzanne Marino is back in town after taking care of some family business and that means Shugar Shack Chocolatier at 31 W. Adams St. is open for business again. Marino said she’s unlocking the doors Tuesday - Friday from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

• “The Emergence of New Global Competitors and What That Means for You” will be the topic at the Sept. 16 Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce Cornerstone Luncheon. John Doggett, senior lecturer at the University of Texas Austin McCombs School of Business, will be the guest speaker. He will share his views about the global impact of Asia, especially China, on the economy, energy, the environment and the way America does business.

• The Carrabba’s Summer Beach Run is Saturday after being rescheduled from Aug. 23 thanks to Tropical Storm Fay. The run starts at 7 p.m. at the Seawalk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach. Fay’s high winds and tides did help beach runners, though. For several weeks, a second high dune had formed leaving little beach at low tide. That sand is gone and the beach is relatively flat again.

• While the primary election may be over, the Supervisor of Elections Office still has plenty to do to make the results official. At 3 p.m. today, Elections Supervisor Jerry Holland and his staff will send the certified results to to the Florida Division of Elections in Tallahassee. Right after that, the office will conduct a mandatory audit, during which 2 percent of one race will be selected at random and audited manually. The audit is at the Elections Center at Gateway Mall and is open to the public.

• Speaking of the Elections Office, the final numbers from the primary are in. Overall, the turnout in Duval County was 20.38 percent, meaning 100,954 of the county’s 495,324 registered voters went to the polls. In the highest-profile race — State Attorney — Angela Corey finished with 63,107 votes (64.38 percent) to Jay Plotkin’s 34,916 (35.62 percent).
