Seven University of North Florida juniors and seniors majoring in building construction management took 12th place in the student competition at the recent National Association of Home Builders International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.
The team included David Auld, Ben Cashen, Vincent Gazzo, Jeffrey Holzer, Andrea Levine, Ryan Parker and Geoff Tucker. The students placed 12th against 40 teams.
In the competition, the students represented a local operating division of a large national home-building company and presented the new project to upper management for consideration of funding and acquisition. The UNF team approached the project as a local division of Centex Homes.
Teams were required to develop a management proposal for a real project by completing an estimate, schedule, cash-flow forecast, marketing plan and other essential elements and submit them for approval.
The UNF team prepared a presentation/proposal on the Villas at Silverado Hills in San Antonio, Tex. The project is a townhome community located inside a large master-planned community that Centex is developing, consisting of 152 units in two phases. The first phase will have 20 buildings with three to six units each and the second phase will contain an additional 14 buildings.
