Chief Assistant Public Defender Refik Eler, Public Defender Matt Shirk and paralegal Lori Frank help distribute school supplies to children at the Sulzbacher Center’s Barnett Children’s Building Wednesday. The card table-sized box contained writing utensils, notebooks, backpacks and other assorted school supplies. The box was set up in the Public Defender’s Office and employees donated items through August to help the homeless children at the center. The center strives to keep displaced families intact and they help coordinate the continuation of a child’s education while they are at the center. It cares for an average of 40 children a day. Eler was recently elected to the center’s board of directors.
