WJCT President and CEO Michael Boylan took some time off from the office Tuesday afternoon to visit the children’s section at the Main Library and make a contribution to the 2009 Festival of Trees children’s readings program. As part of the Junior League of Jacksonville’s annual festival, guest readers are invited to read to children, who then create a craft with the assistance of Junior League volunteers.
Boylan brought his own “Sesame Street” book with him in honor of the 40th anniversary of the classic Public Broadcasting children’s show. After the reading the group was off to the activity room near the big green alligator in the children’s library to create their own “Oscar the Grouch” puppets.
“It’s wonderful that he was able to come and read for the children. WJCT has been a great partner for our Festival of Trees,” said Junior League of Jacksonville President Andrea Rizzi.
Four readings for children remain on this year’s schedule. Saturday at 2 p.m. local author and Duval County Public School teacher Vincent Taylor will be at the Main Library accompanied by his character, “Cornbread.” Dec. 15 at 3:30 p.m. Jacksonville Jaguars placekicker Josh Scobee and Atiyyah Ellison from the Roar will read to children. Ch. 12/25 news anchor Joy Purdy will read Dec. 18 at 3:30 p.m. and this year’s readings wrap up Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. when Santa Claus makes his annual visit to the festival with book in hand.
