• Jaguars owners Wayne and Delores Weaver are the honorary co-chairs of next year’s “Virtual Cruise: Destination Egypt” — a fundraiser for the Florida State College at Jacksonville Foundation. It’s March 6 at the school’s Deerwood Center. The Foundation raises money for dozens of scholarships for students of the school. For more, e-mail [email protected] or call 632-3237.

• Speaking of big events, don’t forget the 125th anniversary of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce. It’s Jan. 14 at The Florida Theatre and includes several awards. The cost is $45 a person, but after Dec. 30 it’s $55.

• Jacksonville Aviation Authority Executive Director Steve Grossman is looking to help curb the number of people getting speeding tickets just outside JIA. The issue came to his attention several weeks ago when visitors from Kentucky were issued a citation on Yankee Clipper Drive. In a letter to Mayor John Peyton, Grossman said, “Traffic enforcement on this stretch of road is a common complaint that the Airport receives, especially from non-residents.” Grossman wants to talk to Peyton about the speed limit and other other things JAA can do to warn motorists.
